Without knowing it, we are all guilty of believing things about ourselves that aren’t true. We hold limiting beliefs about ourselves and our lives that affect the way we live, the way we behave and with out even knowing it , we’ve become our own worst enemy.
These lies don’t just arrive in our minds by themselves, they are often things that have been said to you so many times over the years, you’ve just come to believe they’re true. They may even be things you have said to yourself that have taken root in your life.
Everyday these lies go undetected and hold you back from for-filing your potential, reaching your goals and really getting the most of life. Tell me, which of these lies are you telling yourself?
I’m running out of time
We live in a world where everything goes a mile a minute and it’s only getting faster. Where social media serves up a realtime window into other people’s lives, it’s easy to look at what people are doing and feel like you’re not keeping up, or you’re running out of time.
The truth is… you’re not running out of time at all. You’re running your own race and forging your own path. You need to stop comparing your own path and process to to someone else’s, because guess what? Their path is completely different to yours.
You’re not running late, you’re not earlier either - for your path, you’re right on time.
I’ll do it tomorrow
Quit fooling yourself, if you’re putting something off until tomorrow, the chances are it’s not something that fires you up. It’s probably something that you’ve been told to do, or feel like you should be doing, not something you’re actually choosing to do for yourself.
We’ve all heard the old saying ‘The diet starts tomorrow’, but you know full-well that when tomorrow comes around, you’ll be heading straight for the chocolate chip cookies after a long day at work.
The truth is… If you truly want to achieve something, you’ll find anyway possible to make it happen today, right now, this moment. If you’re full of passion and fired up to start a new project, there’s no way you’d be putting it off for tomorrow.
It will aways be this way
Things will never change. This is just the way it is, I give up!
Sound familiar? So many people choose to believe this lie. Choosing to believer we’re stuck with the cards we’ve been dealt and there’s no point in even trying to change it. This is totally heartbreaking to me.
If this is a lie you’ve been telling yourself, my friend, my heart goes out to you. It’s a brutal debilitating
The truth is… you absolutely have the power within you to change your life. You just as long as you realise it, embrace it and believe it. At any given moment you can decided, enough is enough and it’s time for a change and take action on it.
I’ll be happy when…
[Insert whatever you’ve decided will bring you happiness]
For me, this was losing weight. I thought that if I could lose enough weight and look like those fitness models you see on Instagram, I’d be happy. I pictured myself strutting around the gym in just leggings and a sports bra, flashing my abs and feeling like queen of the world - then I would be happy.
After months of slaving away morning and night, everyday in the gym, weighing out my meals and refusing myself any indulgences., I achieved my goal. I lost half of my body fat and finally could show off my sculpted abs. And you know what… after all that effort - I wasn’t happy. Instead of enjoying the feeling of reaching my goal, or enjoying my carefully sculpted body - I found something else focus on instead. Now, I’d decided I could only be happy when I had a boyfriend.
For you it might be buying a certain designer bag, owning your own home, getting your dream job.
The truth is… Whatever you’re inserting to the end of that sentence, hanging your happiness on, telling yourself you’ll be happy when…. it’s a lie. Happiness is found here and now, when you decide to be grateful for what you already have. Happiness is when you choose to look at what you do have and not what you don’t have.
Whatever lies you’re telling you’re self girl, it’s time to face them dead on. It’s time to take control of your life and tear down those lies that have been holding you back for so long. You my friend are so worth it!
This post was inspired by two of my favourite books, if you’re into this topic and want to explore more about breaking the lies that hold you back, I highly recommend you check out these amazing reads:
